After the City of Zagreb and the Split-Dalmatia County, the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County generates the largest county gross domestic product (GDP) and participated in the creation of 8,5% of the total GDP of the Republic of Croatia.
Along with the City of Zagreb and the County of Istria, the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County is the most developed Croatian county according to the criterion of the value of the gross domestic product per capita. With the amount of gross domestic product of EUR 15.232 per inhabitant, about 75% of the European Union average was achieved.
According to activities, in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, activities predominate wholesale and retail trade, transport and storage, accommodation, food preparation and service, and processing industry.
In the structure of exports, the largest shares were achieved by the processing industry, wholesale and retail trade, transport and storage, as well as agriculture, forestry and fishing. The value of merchandise imports, as in approximately half of the number of counties in Croatia, significantly exceeds the value of merchandise exports.
