The municipality of Matulji has an exceptional geostrategic position because it is located right next to the Slovenian border, near the port of Rijeka, the Rupa - Rijeka - Zagreb highway and the Rijeka - Šapjane - Ilirska Bistrica railway line, and is the point of connection with the pan-European corridors Vb and X. Business zone R-1 covers a total area of 14,5 ha, and is located in the northernmost part of Matulje, between the railway line on the northwest side (main line Rijeka - Šapjane - Ilirska Bistrica) and state road D8 (Adriatic highway) on the southeast side. The zone is located opposite the Entrepreneurial Zone R-2 and they are interconnected by an uneven intersection with access to the state road D8. The entrance to the zone is 3 km away from the Rupa - Rijeka highway, the Jurdani interchange, 12 km from the Port of Rijeka and 40 km from Rijeka Airport.
